Olivetti Valentine by Ettore Sottsass

“Dear Valentine, this is to tell you that you are my friend as well as my Valentine, and that I intend to write you lots of letters,” says the user guide. A real POP ART design icon. Not surprisingly, the Valentine typewriter was introduced on February 14, 1969.

Mostly sold in blood-red, the Valentines were also offered in blue, green and white. Sottsass gave a standardized piece of office equipment personality, and said it was designed to use in any place except in the office, so as not to remind anyone of monotonous working hours, but instead provide a highly coloured object on a table in a studio apartment or keep amateur poets company on quiet Sundays in the country.

Made in Olivetti plant in Barcelona, Spain.
